I am Lila Dooley’s grandaughter. Her brother Charles is #5 in the back row. He was the only one of her siblings I never met. None of her family pictures survived so I am thankful to have found this. By the way, she is alive and well at age 92. Thanks so much for sharing!

    Hello,

I have a correction. The girl on the right end in the front row is not Shirley Osborne, but Shirley Jeanette Casteel. She was my dear aunt, who passed away exactly one year ago today. She and my daddy Jackson Casteel, along with their 3 siblings, lived in Dungannon until the mid 1940’s. Billy Greear was her cousin and Louise Mayo a dear family friend.

My mother was born in Nickelsville, Va. She was 10 yrs old in 1945. Her maiden name is Hillman and most of her brothers and sister still live on or near the family land.
kate [salyer] Hillman married Emerson W. Hillman
Henry-Peggy[my mom]Williams- E.W. Hillman jr.{Buster]-Shirley Penley and My Dearly Departed Uncle-Billy Ray Hillman who was the youngest of these siblings, has been researching the family tree for a long time, long before internet, I think I was still in highschool[late 70,s] then the Hillman line was mid 1600’s then! I cant wait to see
the tree now! He didnt get as far with Kate Salyer/Issac tree. Kate was born in 1912 and her mother & father lived and passed away in that same house. I am sure Kate knew the Nickels family and the large oval portrait that hung in Kate’s home was Billy ray as young boy!!! My brother looked like uncle bill as young boy! My parents moved to Dayton, Ohio when I 3yrs old, my brother a baby. my dad chose to learn the Iron Workers Trade so he could provide for his family. The husbands and son in family were either Iron Workers or Millwrights. I am proud to say that these men continued in their trade until retirement. The struggles that people had to endure on a daily basis to survive made them hardworking, tough folks that are also the most generous, hospitable l folks that you could ever meet.

That’s my Uncle Clayton in the third row, fourth from left. My Aunt Gay is on the first row, second from right. I didn’t know they were in the same grade; probably because of where their birthdays fell. Uncle Clayton was born the 13th of December, but I don’t know Aunt Gay’s birthday. Both of them grew up to be really good people. Their mother was the awesome Laura Hamm and their father was Joe Hamm.

By the way, Dungannon was always a cool little town.

I have this same picture. My grandmother was Emma Jean Sluss. She is third from the right in the second row. You have her listed as Imogene. She married Claude W Lane and they had two sons. Claude and Jean lived in Dungannon. They have both passed away. I am glad to have the names of the other children in the photo.
