In 1995, I visited the public library in Gate City VA and found this book on Early Carters in Scott County VA. I obtained a copy of it from the author’s (Rita K Sutton) niece, Eliza S Rigg. It has helped me with my family research and is a fantastic collection Carter family information. It builds upon a book written and published in 1912 by Joseph Lyon Miller, “The Descendants of Capt Thomas Carter of Barford, Lancaster County, Virginia”.
Both Rita Sutton and Eliza Rigg have since passed and there is no known copywrite. Therefore, I am providing it here to be shared to all.

The file is very large so please be patient!
Hi! I am related to the Wolfe family by way of my Granda Daisy Virginia Wolfe and enjoyed many family reunions from childhood on. I’m doing some research to find out how we are connected to June Carter and Maybelle Carter family. This is June Carter (of June Carter Cash) ?
Does anyone know? Thanks!
Kim
Hi. Thank you Doug for providing Early Carters in Scott County to download. I am descended from Peter Carter’s sons Thomas (by his daughter Sarah who married James N. Taylor) and Joseph (by his daughter Jemima who married William Stewart). If Peter’s daughter Frances is the Frances that married Benjamin Pendleton, then I am descended from their son Reuben. Do you have any information whether Frances Pendleton, who was killed by Indians (Chief Benge), is Frances Carter, daughter of Peter Carter?
Thanks
Amy
i am wonderng the same thing i am related to the wolfe family as well and wanted to know if i was related to the june carter ,i saw carter on my family tree along with wolfe , i know jacob wolfe is on my ancestry tree .
Do you know, or know how I can find, the whereabouts of the THOMAS CARTER family cemetery (he was brother to Norris and Joseph Carter, member of Virginia legislature during Constitution ratification, etc.). He died in 1803 and the only records I can find say he is buried in Rye Cove, Scott County, VA. I did find his brother Joseph Carter’s headstone, but the others in that particular cemetery are so deteriorated I can’t read them. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
