AGED WOMAN DIED THURSDAY
Mrs. Rebecca Jane Allen Passes Away at Age 96 Years
Mrs. Rebecca Jane Allen, one of the oldest women in this section, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P. H. Carr near the L. & H. depot in Big Stone Gap last Thursday at the age of 96 years. She was a native of Scott county but had been a resident of this place for the past 25 years.
Mrs. Allen was married to Jimmie Allen at the close of the Civil war after he has served in the ranks of the Confederacy. He died in 1912
Mrs. Allen had a large number of friends in her community all of whom knew and loved to call her “grandma.”
Five daughters and one son survive: Mrs. W. A. Sloan and Mrs. P. H. Carr, Big Stone Gap; Mrs. Jim Lane and Mrs. Will Lane of Pattonsville; Mrs. Jane Head and Brainard Allen of Mooresville, Ind. Also 26 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She was laid to rest in the cemetery near the extract plant Saturday afternoon.
Rebecca died 18 Mar 1937
Could James Allen, b. 22 Feb 1843, m. Jane, d. 8 March 1909, be the Jim and Rebecca Jane Allen in your newspaper clipping? If it is, could you e-mail me at mamaw.debdeb@gmail.com? I’d love to compare notes.
Hi, I just saw this No the James Allen here died in 1912 in Rockcastle co. Ky and Rebecca above died in 1934. My James was born around 1839/41 to John and Esther Allen.

My name is Amanda. I have been researching my birth family, and this obituary and the info you posted on James and Rebecca Allen is a perfect 100% match to my papers. I have a ton of papers that i have aquired over the years from various genealogists in indiana. I am from California and i was actually adopted. Long story short, PLEASE email me back, it would be great to see what both of us have and maybe we could send eachother copies of the info we each have.
Hi Amanda, I just saw this today. chappell.sue28@gmail.com would love to hear from you if you are still interested in contact.
let me know.

To all that have posted before,
My name is David Allen Lane and I was born in Franklin, IN. My father was Thomas M. (no name, just initial) Lane. He was born in the Pattonsville, VA on Nov. 30, 1935. His father was James Lane, who died in 1937 when my father was a young boy and …… died in 1974 before I was born in 1976. T.M. (which is what family and friends called my father) moved to Indiana in the 1950s along with several cousins, to include Carson Dulaney, Gene Smith and others. I am optimistic that Mrs. Allen (hence my middle name) may have been my great-grandmother. If anyone may have any helpful information, I would greatly appreciate it. I am just getting started in checking my family geneolgy.
Thanks,
David
