Researching the Jesse Smith and William Smith’s families in Scott Co., VA. Trying to find their parents and all of Jesse’s kids. A John Smith (71 in the 1850 census) is a likely candidate.

From talking with my mom the law officer that was killed would have been my great grandmas dad. I’m not positive and going by what my mom can remember. I just thought it was interesting to see your information was close to what my mom was saying. Thanks

Hi There – My ancestor is also Lowton John Smith, which married Eleanor Ellen Larkey (born 01 APR 1831 and died 11 AUG 1911), and the dates match what you have provided, Sandra. Ellen Larkey’s parents were James Campbell Larkey (1778-1851) & Ellen Mahan (1786-1863).

My g-grandfather is Milton James Smith, and his parents were John C. Smith and Louisa Victoria Hilton. Additionally, Louisa is a direct descendant of William Lawson, the famous Scottish Rebel. Milton had a son named Byrl, and that’s my grandpa.

My grandfather told the story that his grandpa was in law enforcement, and they had put together a posse to chase after a gang. His horse and saddle were found in a cave, but his body never was found, but his gravesite is only that of his wife’s, with his information included. I’ve never confirmed the details of this paragraph.

I am also attempting to go back beyond Lowten (Lowton?) Smith, but have no trail.

Here’s his Find a grave memorial:

I am trying to find info on my husbands great grandfather, Charles Daniel Fleenor of Bristol, VA. He was married to a Mary Alice ? / Alice Mary ?. I’m not sure who Charles parents were. I think his mother was Harriet Pullon. Still trying to prove it. They are all three buried in the Marys Chapel Union Church Cemetery in VA. They had a dau, Fay, Day, Hattie (Nettie), son, Roy and others that I can’t think of right off the top of my head. If you have any info on Charles, Alice/Mary or Harriet, please let me know.

William & Dicey are buried in the Smith Family cementary along with their daughter Lou Tisha, her Husband (John A. Taylor) and daughter (Nannie B. Taylor). Beside the 5 children shown, they had 6 other children (ref: 1860 & 1880 census).
Dicey’s brother (Joel H. Fleenor) married Willam James sister (Sarah H. Smith) and are buried in the Marrs family cementary. Samuel Smith had 7 children, whom with the exception of Sarah, are also buried in the Smith cementary.
The link to cementary information thru the Scott County historical society (http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~vaschs2/s-t-u-v.htm)

        Wilma,
I am researching the Smith Family for my Mother in Law and had gotten stuck at Samuel Smith (1798-1861) who was married to Rachel Stinson (1803-1883). I see that you mention that Samuel Smith’s father was William Smith of Washington County. Do you have anymore information for the family?
