Does anyone know if this Nimrod’d Son Nimrod was married to Elizabeth Whitt
The Nimrod Taylor that was married to Elizabeth Whitt is not the son of Nimrod Taylor Sr., the Revolutionary War soldier. The Nimrod married to Elizabeth Whitt was born in 1898 in Russell County and is my 3rd great-grandfather. His ancestors are questionable but he was raised in the Samuel Taylor family. (See Russell County Tax list analysis, 1810-1830 of Nimrod Taylor by Michael Dye)
Looking for Nimrod Taylor that was the son of Samuel Taylor I am a descendant of him. Any and all help is appreciated Thanks!!!!!
I show Jr’s Wife as Sara Carolyn Carter b 1781 d 1850 Nimrod III maried to Sally Minton in 1832, with their dau, Minerva b 1834 married to Elijah Carter
I believe Nimrod Taylor that married Mary Lutz is my GGGGF. Please let me know if you have a website that I can visit concerning Scott County Families. I am researching Bryants/Falins/Hortons/Sloans and would appreciate any information you may have on these families. Sandy

I have always wondered if Nimrod Taylor wife was a Mary Lotz or Lutz.
One of my sister-in-law married into Lutz family. The Lutz that I have are from Ohio.
I have not done hardly any research on the Lut’z, also I found in Campaign Co, Ohio in one of the cemetery, several headstone for the Lutz family. My set of Lutz ties in with the Shaffer & Clark Family in Ohio.
Thank you
Kay G.
I am a seventh generation decendant of Nimrod Taylor, Sr. Do you have information on his parents? I was hoping to trace my family back a few more generations. Thanks, Mike
Any relation to the Taylors of Tazewell,VA?
I am a direct descendant of Nimrod Taylor Sr. My father and I have been searching for the Carter Cemetery he is buried in. So far we’ve been to about 5 with no luck. How do you get to the Carter Cemetery he is in?
I can help you David, it is just off State Route 649 in Rye Cove at Joseph Carter Cemetery and the correct GPS is N 36.72860 W -82.69762 and that is under the flag pole. That is Rye Cove, Scott County, Virginia. Hope that helps. …Wayne
I was there 2 years ago, it is a bit hard to find, go route .23 south, and turn onto Rye Cove Rd. you will pass a church, and on the left is a blue house, next to it is the small rd. going up to the cemetery, we tried 2 times before finally getting to the right spot. Lovely cemetery, very well maintained, quiet and beautiful views.
I am doing some research on the Kirk family married a Amanda Taylor who was said to be the daughter of Moses Taylor and Mary Hill Amanda was born about 1824 in Scott co. va can anyone verify this for me.
Thanks
Sue
I just looked at Nimrods pension papers and it said that Nimrod jr. wife was name Judith last name unknown in 1855.
Sue
Judith was Judith Stewart, daughter of William and Jemima Carter Stewart.
Hey Sue, I’ve got a packet of the descendants of Nimrod Taylor Sr. compiled in 1960 and revised in 1976. According to the packet Nimrod Jr. was married to Judith Stewart. Do you know if there is a possiblity of Amanda being in Nimrod’s line?
My wife mary katherine taylor is a desendant of Nimrod taylor. He father Henry vornard his father Benijman-his father James his father Nimrod jr. would like any info on this family.
Nimrod Sr. is my gggg-grandfather. I have extensive handwritten & typed documentation from my grandmother’s (Mary Elizabeth Patten Taylor) nephew Ewing Taylor – dated 1958. My father Marion Max who’s dad was Willard Conley, who’s dad was William P, who’s dad was Nimrod Jr & Judy Stewart, to Nimrod Sr. I’m happy to scan and send to anyone interested. Does anyone have the family tree going back to Carlisle England?
Hello Kris,
Nimrod Sr is my GGGGGGrandfather I would love to see the documentation you have for him. If you would please contact me using my email address I would be delighted to share any information that I have that would be of use to you.
Thanks,
Jerrie
Hello!
I would be happy to scan and send to you what I have. Give me a couple of weeks as my schedule is quite full right now.
-Kris
Hello Jerrie,
Wayne recommended I contact you. My ggg grandfather is William P Taylor from Virginia. I am planning a trip to Scotts County this fall. I understand you have been there. What and where do you recommend I go for information on our family tree. I would also like to visit some cemetary sites of ancesters of the Taylors. Thank you for any info you can share.
Thank you again,
Carol
Nimrod Sr. is my gggg-grandfather also and I also come from William P.’s daughter Nancy Allen Taylor who married Ambrose Tyler and moved to Florida about 1912 after Ambrose died in Eolia KY. Our family was far away out of the loop for so long and I would surely like you to contact me so I could get a copy of your scans so we can find our place again.
My Grandfathers Grandfather was Andrew J Taylor from Virgina. His father I believe was William P Taylor. I am trying to put the peaces together. The only thing my Grandfather told me about his family is that his father was the 7th son of the 7th son and that the had a plantation that was destroyed during the civil war. If you can help me that would be great. I am planning a trip this fall to Scotts county Virgina and would like to know where to look for information. Thank you so much,
Carol Ricca
Carol king-Riccardo Andrew Jackson Taylor is also my gg grandfather and he moved from rye cove Scott Co Virginia to Letcher county and died at about 41 years of age and his wife Susannah Wolfe remarried Ira Hall and she had 2 more children
Do you have a list of William P Taylors children? I am hoping he is my GGG Grandfather as well. I plan a trip to Scotts County Virginia this fall and plan to research all that I can on the Taylors.
Carol,
You can see that list of the children of William P. Taylor online at this web site:
http://www.yeahpot.com/taylor/williamp.html
One of his sons was Andrew Jackson Taylor …..I am quite sure you are kin to Jerrie Taylor-Kelly through him, both of you. (you can reply to her post up above in this forum and contact her) She visited Scott County last fall and knows a lot about things in the family and could help you find where yours fit in I am sure. Tell her Wayne told you to write to her.
Wayne
Carol, The grave of William P. Taylor and some of his family can be found by clicking on the cemetery name on his gravemarker web page at:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=56998662
They have a road map there showing the exact location in Scott County, with links to some of his children. I don’t know if Jerrie ever found the grave of Andrew Jackson Taylor or not. Nimrod Taylor Sr. is in a different cemetery, named Joseph Carter Cemetery in the same general area of the county, but harder to find. Video clips of the Sept. 19, 2010 SAR dedication ceremony there at his grave were placed on YouTube today in 4 parts at: http://www.youtube.com/user/yockel99
Hi Kris, Please send any info you have to Caminito07@tampabay.com
Hi Kris,
This is Carrie, we met years ago down in the LA area. I am Sherry’s daugter, and Bill Killian’s neice. I live in the Portland area now, but anyway, I would LOVE to see extensive handwritten/typed documentation. Maybe we can get together and compile our stuff? Your mom mentioned to me that you were into the family tree!
Hope to hear from you soon, Carrie
hello I am the 5 times great grand daughter of Nimrod so I was hoping for any information you could share with me. It would be greatly appreciated. My email is leesh_777@yahoo.com. Thank you again.
Alicia
I would love anything you have on Nimrod Sr. I have the interesting dilemma in my family line where 2 of Nimrod and Mary Lotz children had children and they had children that got married and had kids so any information to help put all that together would be greatly apprecaited! Thank you so much.
Nimrod was my great ,great, great, great , grandfather. His daughter Polly married Henery P Davidson . I have the copy of the Davidson family line.
My name is John Strong, Howdy yall
Hi,
I see you too are related to Nimrod Tayor, Patriot of the Revolution.
AND we may be related through the STRONG line. My Mom’s father is Elmer Strong, son of Roscoe P Strong, son of W.E. Strong, son of William E. Strong son of JAMES STRONG born in Ireland 1762, died in Oh wife and son died in Jefferson Co. IA.
ANYONE related to Strongs please contact me.
ANYONE with info on NIMROD TAYLOR line older than Nimrod please also contact me. I am a member of DAR and he is my Patriot for membership.
Howdy Kris and John! Ole Nimrod has his fair share of kin on down the line, me included.
Ewing Taylor’s research is pretty well known in the Taylor circles, I think I have a copy of it somewhere too, if it’s not on a crashed hard drive.
I am tracking down my wife’s MILLER line from KY. According to Ancestry.com Her 4G-Grandfather Adam Miller (B. 1788 VA D. 1877 KY) supposedly married a Nancy Taylor (B. 1780 VA, D. 1850 KY) and her father/mother are supposedly Nimrod Taylor & Mary Lutz.
I got kinda excited seeing that Nimrod had Revolutionary War ties and tried to find out more about him via Google. Another family tree lineage (ancestors of Andrew Byron Brodnax) said that Nancy was married to a Charles Burr Carter.
Can anyone add clarification to this please?
If she is related to Nimrod & Mary – how far back has someone gotten?
Adam Miller was my ggg grandfather and I have information that may be useful – Mo Miller
Mo,
Would love to know what you have regarding Adam Miller and Nancy taylor (and her association with Cahles Carter too)
Please email me at wxjedi@gmail.com
thanks
Luke
The DAR is doing a ceremony and placing a marker today at 3 PM at Nimrod Sr.’s grave, Joseph Carter Cemetery. Attend the event if you can.
Video clips in 4 parts of the dedication ceremony of Sept. 19, 2010, were placed on YouTube today for our Taylor family at:

Nimrod Taylor was one of my grandfathers. I have been working on geneology records of the Taylors. Thank you for sharing this information with me.
Charlotte
Very interesting. Nimrod Jr. is my GGGGGGG-grandfather. Although down the line, my GGGGG-grandfather changed his name to Jackson but we’re not sure why? We heard something about him murdering someone, but if anyone happens to know, I’d love to hear it. His name was Monroe Taylor, changed to Joseph Jackson.
Anyway, my question is regarding Nimrod SR., what were his parents names? I have Nimrod Jr’s parents as Mary Lotz (or Lutz) and Nimrod Taylor, wife as Judith Stewart. Thanks!
Holly, regarding your ancestor Monroe Taylor, who do you have for his parents?
The Nimrod Taylor whos headstone is pictured here is the Nimrod Taylor who was married to Mary Lotz (or Lutz). He was the father of Nimrod who married Judith Stewart. Nimrod Jr. and Judith had a son named James Andrew Taylor who married Katherine Stewart, they had, among other sons named Monroe and Nimrod who married Dorton women (so many Taylor and Stewarts and Dortons… it gets really confusing!)
I have Nimrod Taylor and Judith Stewart as Monroe Taylor (or Joseph Jackson)’s parents, but I can’t find who Nimrod SR’s parents were. Yes, it does get confusing!
There has been a lot of discussion regarding Nimrod Sr. parents. I know I have some of that info somewhere and when I get time I will look to see what I have.
Ok, sounds good. Thank you!
I would also like information on Nimrod Taylor Sr.’s parents. Does anyone know if the Taylors came from England and When.
Thank you,
Hi,
Does anyone know if a Y-DNA test has been taken of a descendant in the male line of Nimrod Taylor? My great-grandfather may be a descendant of that family.
My Taylor line shares autosomal (Ancestry Thrulines) dna matches with Nimrod. Nimrod also appears to be a descendant of Robert A Taylor 1680-1758 of Old Rappahanock VA, who shows in the Taylor DNA project as being a I-M253 haplogroup Taylor, of which my line is also. Here is my confirmed parental Taylor line.
My Paternal Taylor Lineage
01 1967- David Wayne, Anderson, TN
02 1936-2017 Dencie Wayne, Greene, TN
03 1914-2001 Denzil Noah, Greene, TN
04 1882-1973 Noah, Greene, TN
05 1857-1887 Levi, Greene, TN
06 1804-1864 William, NC or Carter, TN
There are no records yet found of William’s parents. The 1850 & 60 censuses state he was born in NC, but 8 of his children state his birthplace as Carter Co, TN where he is documented to live in the 1820s-50s.
I have taken 2 Y-dna tests, and our Taylor line is also I-M253, so likely related somehow to Nimrod.

Also I have spoken with a close Y-dna match from CA named Matthew, who also took the Y-700 test, and we show a tip report of of having a 97% change of gaving the same 8generation ancestor. His OKA is a John Taylor 1795-1882 born near Essex/Richmond VA and died Johnson Co OH.

I am working on a Taylor family tree for my brother-in-law whose family tree goes from Nimrod Taylor (Rev. War soldier born 1756-1834) to Nimrod Taylor, Jr. (17931872 married to Mary Lotz) to James Andrew Taylor (1810-1889 married to Catherine Steward) to Milo Taylor (1841-1925 married to Nancy Jane/Janie Salling) to Clinton Nimrod Taylor (1872-1966 mrried to Dora Gillenwater) to his father, Malcolm Taylor. I would like any information on the parents, etc. of Nimrod Taylor (1756-1834). Family records indicate his father was a Zachary Taylor (not the president) born about 1720-1730 in Virginia. Can anyone help me with this information?

All Taylor males please have your DNA tested by FTDNA (www.familytreedna.com). There are many people trying to connect their Teylor line to Pres. Zachary or to Rowland Taylor via Nimrod and George. You should match DNA with Group 02 if you are truly related to this line. See http://www.taylorfamilygenes.com
Just wanted to add … I am a direct descendant of William Tarlton Taylor 1759-1811 and his DNA does not match the DNA of kin to Nimrod Taylor. We’re not related. Unfortunately Mary Brewer published this William as a brother of Nimrod’s without documentation in her book “From Log Cabin to White House.”
I have Nimrod’s ancestry back to the year 1478 in England. You can contact me at jheitmuller@gmail.com. He is an ancestor of mine
Hi, I am trying to clean up part of the wikitree family tree relating to Nimrod Taylor. On wikitree there are two profiles that I believe should be merged in to one profile but some of the detail conflicts. Does anyone have any evidence as to who is parents are. I am happy to assist you if you are not familiar with wikitree or I am happy to enter information onto wikitree if you send it to me and provide some evidence as to its accuracy. FYI I am not related but enjoy genealogy as a hobby. Ps if you are reading this well after this was posted please check with wikitree to see whether it has been resolved. Thanks
Stuart Doc Marshall Taylor is group on Facebook and that is where the family is posting

I am a 6th generation Granddaughter and I have our Grandfather’s names as far back as my 9th.Nimrod Taylor who was Married Mary Lutz…his Father’s name was George Taylor b. 1724 d. 1788. George’s dad was George Taylor Sr. b.1703 d.1789. His dad was John Taylor b.1683 d.1748
How far back have you gone in Ancestry in the Taylor family? England ? I am also a granddaughter of his .
from Debra Bailey
Nimrod Taylor who married Mary Lotz/Lutz is my 5th great grandfather. I have gone back to John Taylor (my 18th great grandfather) born 1327 in Shadochurst, Kent County, England and died 1377 in Shadochurst, Kent, England. Any information on generations before him is sketchy (not sure if information posted on Ancestry by others is correct). According to some on Ancestry, the Taylor name was changed from Taillefer and the first Taillefer came from France to England around the time of William the Conqueror.
Most information on Ancestry is sketchy.
I would be interested in seeing your evidence as to Nimrod’s ancestors.
I am descended from Nimrod through his son William and Mary Horton.
Wondering if anyone of Nimrod’s line is still active here, and has done Y-dna testing. I have seen references to his father and grandfather and a nephew, on the Taylor dna project, as being I-M253 haplogroup. I would like to share with other I haplogroup Taylors of the 16-17-1800s from VA, NC, and TN.
