The Nimrod Taylor that was married to Elizabeth Whitt is not the son of Nimrod Taylor Sr., the Revolutionary War soldier. The Nimrod married to Elizabeth Whitt was born in 1898 in Russell County and is my 3rd great-grandfather. His ancestors are questionable but he was raised in the Samuel Taylor family. (See Russell County Tax list analysis, 1810-1830 of Nimrod Taylor by Michael Dye)

I have always wondered if Nimrod Taylor wife was a Mary Lotz or Lutz.
One of my sister-in-law married into Lutz family. The Lutz that I have are from Ohio.

I have not done hardly any research on the Lut’z, also I found in Campaign Co, Ohio in one of the cemetery, several headstone for the Lutz family. My set of Lutz ties in with the Shaffer & Clark Family in Ohio.

      Thank you

I was there 2 years ago, it is a bit hard to find, go route .23 south, and turn onto Rye Cove Rd. you will pass a church, and on the left is a blue house, next to it is the small rd. going up to the cemetery, we tried 2 times before finally getting to the right spot. Lovely cemetery, very well maintained, quiet and beautiful views.

Nimrod Sr. is my gggg-grandfather. I have extensive handwritten & typed documentation from my grandmother’s (Mary Elizabeth Patten Taylor) nephew Ewing Taylor – dated 1958. My father Marion Max who’s dad was Willard Conley, who’s dad was William P, who’s dad was Nimrod Jr & Judy Stewart, to Nimrod Sr. I’m happy to scan and send to anyone interested. Does anyone have the family tree going back to Carlisle England?

Carol, The grave of William P. Taylor and some of his family can be found by clicking on the cemetery name on his gravemarker web page at:
          http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=56998662

They have a road map there showing the exact location in Scott County, with links to some of his children. I don’t know if Jerrie ever found the grave of Andrew Jackson Taylor or not. Nimrod Taylor Sr. is in a different cemetery, named Joseph Carter Cemetery in the same general area of the county, but harder to find. Video clips of the Sept. 19, 2010 SAR dedication ceremony there at his grave were placed on YouTube today in 4 parts at: http://www.youtube.com/user/yockel99

I am tracking down my wife’s MILLER line from KY. According to Ancestry.com Her 4G-Grandfather Adam Miller (B. 1788 VA D. 1877 KY) supposedly married a Nancy Taylor (B. 1780 VA, D. 1850 KY) and her father/mother are supposedly Nimrod Taylor & Mary Lutz.

I got kinda excited seeing that Nimrod had Revolutionary War ties and tried to find out more about him via Google. Another family tree lineage (ancestors of Andrew Byron Brodnax) said that Nancy was married to a Charles Burr Carter.

Can anyone add clarification to this please?

If she is related to Nimrod & Mary – how far back has someone gotten?

Very interesting. Nimrod Jr. is my GGGGGGG-grandfather. Although down the line, my GGGGG-grandfather changed his name to Jackson but we’re not sure why? We heard something about him murdering someone, but if anyone happens to know, I’d love to hear it. His name was Monroe Taylor, changed to Joseph Jackson.
Anyway, my question is regarding Nimrod SR., what were his parents names? I have Nimrod Jr’s parents as Mary Lotz (or Lutz) and Nimrod Taylor, wife as Judith Stewart. Thanks!

Holly, regarding your ancestor Monroe Taylor, who do you have for his parents?

The Nimrod Taylor whos headstone is pictured here is the Nimrod Taylor who was married to Mary Lotz (or Lutz). He was the father of Nimrod who married Judith Stewart. Nimrod Jr. and Judith had a son named James Andrew Taylor who married Katherine Stewart, they had, among other sons named Monroe and Nimrod who married Dorton women (so many Taylor and Stewarts and Dortons… it gets really confusing!)

My Taylor line shares autosomal (Ancestry Thrulines) dna matches with Nimrod. Nimrod also appears to be a descendant of Robert A Taylor 1680-1758 of Old Rappahanock VA, who shows in the Taylor DNA project as being a I-M253 haplogroup Taylor, of which my line is also. Here is my confirmed parental Taylor line.
        My Paternal Taylor Lineage
01 1967- David Wayne, Anderson, TN
02 1936-2017 Dencie Wayne, Greene, TN
03 1914-2001 Denzil Noah, Greene, TN
        04 1882-1973 Noah, Greene, TN
        05 1857-1887 Levi, Greene, TN
06 1804-1864 William, NC or Carter, TN
There are no records yet found of William’s parents. The 1850 & 60 censuses state he was born in NC, but 8 of his children state his birthplace as Carter Co, TN where he is documented to live in the 1820s-50s.
I have taken 2 Y-dna tests, and our Taylor line is also I-M253, so likely related somehow to Nimrod.

Also I have spoken with a close Y-dna match from CA named Matthew, who also took the Y-700 test, and we show a tip report of of having a 97% change of gaving the same 8generation ancestor. His OKA is a John Taylor 1795-1882 born near Essex/Richmond VA and died Johnson Co OH.

All Taylor males please have your DNA tested by FTDNA (www.familytreedna.com). There are many people trying to connect their Teylor line to Pres. Zachary or to Rowland Taylor via Nimrod and George. You should match DNA with Group 02 if you are truly related to this line. See http://www.taylorfamilygenes.com

Just wanted to add … I am a direct descendant of William Tarlton Taylor 1759-1811 and his DNA does not match the DNA of kin to Nimrod Taylor. We’re not related. Unfortunately Mary Brewer published this William as a brother of Nimrod’s without documentation in her book “From Log Cabin to White House.”

Hi, I am trying to clean up part of the wikitree family tree relating to Nimrod Taylor. On wikitree there are two profiles that I believe should be merged in to one profile but some of the detail conflicts. Does anyone have any evidence as to who is parents are. I am happy to assist you if you are not familiar with wikitree or I am happy to enter information onto wikitree if you send it to me and provide some evidence as to its accuracy. FYI I am not related but enjoy genealogy as a hobby. Ps if you are reading this well after this was posted please check with wikitree to see whether it has been resolved. Thanks

Nimrod Taylor who married Mary Lotz/Lutz is my 5th great grandfather. I have gone back to John Taylor (my 18th great grandfather) born 1327 in Shadochurst, Kent County, England and died 1377 in Shadochurst, Kent, England. Any information on generations before him is sketchy (not sure if information posted on Ancestry by others is correct). According to some on Ancestry, the Taylor name was changed from Taillefer and the first Taillefer came from France to England around the time of William the Conqueror.

Most information on Ancestry is sketchy.

I would be interested in seeing your evidence as to Nimrod’s ancestors.

I am descended from Nimrod through his son William and Mary Horton.

Wondering if anyone of Nimrod’s line is still active here, and has done Y-dna testing. I have seen references to his father and grandfather and a nephew, on the Taylor dna project, as being I-M253 haplogroup. I would like to share with other I haplogroup Taylors of the 16-17-1800s from VA, NC, and TN.
