This picture caught my eye because I have a “Fields” ancester in Scott County, Virginia so I pulled out my census records to see what I could find. Not having the time perioed, I looked at 1850 United States Census for Scott County, Virginia and found that William B. and Jane Flannery had a young son age 4 months. Again, I find George W. Flannery, age 20 years, still living in his father’s household on the 1870 census. Is this the George Flannery in the picture??

I, also, have Fields connections to Scott Co., and wonder if this Sarah Fields could be a relative. In the 1850 Scott Co. census my ggg grandfather Richard Fields (with wife Mary and children) were living next to another Richard Fields (with with Anna and children), so wonder if this Sarah could be related to one of them. It is NOT the Sally listed with my Richard as I have proof she died in 1854. Both Richard’s were born in Russell Co., Va., so wonder if they were cousins?

I am trying to locate Anzie Flannary. Her family lived next to a Roberts family. Two flannary girls married two of the Roberts boys. Anzie married James Roberts in Feb. 1840.

What Tandy Flanary are you talking about? I have Tandy H. Flanary that married my gr Aunt Amanda ‘Mandy’ Hensley Peters and I don’t show a daughter Pheobe for them Tandy was married 3 times, but I did not find a Pheobe for anyone of then. There is another Tandy who was an older generations that is referred to as Tandy ‘DeKalb’ Flanary. He was married to Henrietta Durham but the only child I show for them is Tilmon Flanary. However, I probably everything, as the Flanary’s are not my direct line, just by marriage. However, I would like to know what you have so I can add this info to my files.

      Thanks much,

My grandfather is the half brother of Conley flanary. Tandy harvey flanary was married to my great grandmother Susan wallen owens flanary and to this union was born their only child Arthur James flanary (1902) Susan died before 1905. His uncle James Wesley wallen took my grandfather to Texas and adopted him in. 1905 and changed his names to James Arthur wallen. I don’t know why he took him and kept him from tandy he did get to later meet Conley and half sister jalie owens peters in Illinois as adults. My email is maggiestree@yahoo.com

My greatgrandmother was Sarah Fields Hensley. Daughter of John Fields and Manerva Ramzey Fields I see that Flannary is the name under this picture; however, I have a picture of Sarah Fields Hensley with a man that looks extrodinarily like the people in the picture above. I also have a picture of my great grandfather Clint Hensley and the writing on the back indicate him as Sarah’s ex-husband. Do you know if this is the same Sarah Fields? My grandmother is Bessie Peters and my Mother Phyllis Peters. Bessie married Lenord Peters, son of Robert Lincoln Peters.

Sarah Fields (wife of (1st) Nathan William Hodge Sr (2nd) Thomas Belt)… the Hodge line is mine. Sarah and Nathan were married probably in Prince George’s County, Maryland around 1762. Nathan died, and Sarah remarried – to Thomas Belt. If ANYONE knows ANYTHING about ANY of these three people, please — please — please – contact me at anicehippylady@aol.com! I am trying to connect the dots and determine the ancestors etc of these people. Thanks!

This is a reply to Pamela Flanary. My grandfather was James Arthur Flanary born To Tandy Harvey and Susan Wallen Flanary. One of his half brothers was Conley Flanary. I have a picture pf them when they met as adults. My grandfather was adopted by his Uncle James Wesley Wallen in 1905. His mother had died. I do not all the details on why he didn’t end up with his father. But I was told that James W. Wallen had wisked him away to Texas and adopted him. I was told by a daughter of Conley that Tandy looked for him all of his life. I have alot of information on the families. I have alot of research donated to World Family Tree. I also joined the Flanary DNA study. It proved that he was A Flanary. If you need anymore info, please let me know.

One of Arthurs step-sisters was Maxie Flanary who married Claude Dorton. They were my grandparents. I would love to have any information on Arthur & his mother. I’d be glad to share any information that I have on the family. I do have the Flanary’s traced back a few generations & have written down some wonderful things related to me in interviews of people who knew them.

This is in reply to Margaret Willison. My grandmother was Maxie Flanary Dorton, daughter of Tandy & Mandy (3rd wife). My “Granny” gave me her Daddy’s (Tandy) bible for a graduation present. I believe it to be Susan’s because of the Wallen events written inside. Please contact me at bdifferent6@hotmail.com. I’d be glad to compare notes & give you the information in the bible. Thank you. Kim, I believe we were in contact several years ago. My grandfather was James Arthur Flanary (Wallen). He never got to meet his father, he was adopted by his Uncle James Wesley Wallen in 1905 in Texas. So, you actually have Susan’s Bible! There is so much that I don’t know abt. Tandy and Susan’s union. Is there a way for you to copy any family information pages or is it too worn? Do you have any pictures of Tandy or Susan? My dear father is 86 years old and would dearly love to see what they looked like. Any information etc. would be greatly appreciated! I can give you my home address and phone number in my email msg. Thanks for your help!

Anyone who is interested in the Tandy & “Ritty” Flanary line in Scott Co., VA, I do have the family’s information. I am fortunate enough to have grown up in the area & listen to friends & family tell what they knew of this family. My grandmother, Maxie Flanary Dorton, was an incredible, loving soul & loved to talk about her family. As a teenager, I wised up & started writing down her memories of their lives, so they wouldn’t be lost. I’m 47 now, so I’ve kept them alive for that long at least & I would love to share them.

      Hi Kim,

Maxie Flanary Dorton was my dad’s first cousin. Her mother, Amanda ‘ Mandy’ was my grandma’s sister. I was too young to know these cousins much. I remember my dad talked about them a lot, especially Con and Tobe. He also talked about Tee Flanary, who I think was Aunt Mandy’s sister Mary’s and Lafayette’s son. Mary was older and she married Tandy’s father. I would very much like to have anything you have on this family. I have a picture of Tandy and Mandy Flanary and also one of Con and some of his younger siblings and one of Con and Tobe horsing around on the railroad track. I will be happy to send these to you, if you will send me you email address. I also was contacted by some of Tobe’s children who live in Texas and they said when their dad died thier mother remarried to a man named Surles and he was supposed to have adopted them and they took the name Surles. If you don’t know these people, let me know and I will send you their email addressess.

I have been looking for a long time for someone who could fill me in on this family. I remember one time when I was just a kid going to see Aunt Mandy. My sister Rachel said she remembered going with my mother and grandma Josie. When my grandma Josie was little she stayed with her older sister Aunt Nan Reed and Aunt Mandy I think stayed with Aunt Mary. Nan and Mary were older and they took care of some of the younger kids. Their mother Margaret C. Hensley was living with her brother, Isom Hensley JR. in 1900 I think it was. I was told that my grandma’s mother died when my grandma was a baby, but that is not true because Josie was 11 years old livng with Aunt Nan Reed, and Mandy was living with her sister Mary. I am assuming that Margaret was not able to take care of them so that is why they stayed with their older sisters. If you don’t know the story of Margaret, let me know and I can tell you that too.

The Tandy Flanary in my husbans history is the father of Tillman Flanary that I have found. Anything you can add would be helpful.

I believe George in the picture is Robert’s brother, and Robert would be my GGGgrandpa. His sons were involved in a shootout and one of the Fields were with the Flannery’s at the time of the shooting. My GGgrandpa was Patton Baldwin Flannery. Anyone have any pictures of this line of Flannery/Flanary’s? I matched 37-37 on the YDNA project!
