The “Bellomy” Store should be “Bellamy”. It was located on State Road(SR) 627 where SR 643 takes off to the north. It shows up on VA maps as Bellamy & my dad always referred to it as Bellamy Town. I also think that the name on the bottom left of the photo is “Carl” rather than “Burl”. I think its a picture of Carl J. Bellamy(b 1905) s/o Wm. Henry Bellamy & Rhoda Bell Scott. He married on 7/12/24 Lakie Esther Templeton (10/9/06-10/31/88), the youngest child of James Elbert “Dr.Jimmy” Templeton. They had one child Patricia Ann Bellamy (b ~1925) who married Marvin B.Carter on 7/13/1946. Carl & Lakie were divorced & Aunt Lakie had her name changed back to Lakie Templeton. She worked for years at the old Kingsport Hardware Store in Kingsport,TN. I am assuming this is Uncle Carl for the following reasons. The other Templeton photos have the given name & surname immediately adjacent to one another. This photo has “Carl” on the bottom left & “Templeton” on the bottom right. It’s possible-if not probable-that the original owner had photos grouped by the ancestral family that the subject tied into; i.e., Carl Bellamy’s photo would be grouped with Templeton photos rather than Lane, Quillen, Wolfe or Franklin photos. The Templetons-at least thru the 20’s-tended to pass down given names thru the generations. I can’t recall any Carl Templetons. The only Carl I can recall associated with the Templetons is Carl Bellamy who was raised just down Copper Creek from the home of his future wife, Lakie.

I believe this is my first cousin – Carl Edgar Templeton – son of Orban Clarence Templeton and Rena France Templeton. Carl married Thelma Lane and currently lives near the old quarry pond on the west end of Gate City, Va. His dad Orban was my dad William Farley Templeton’s older brother; Orban died in 1953 and my dad William Farley (Bill) passed away April 6, 1999. Carl is the brother of Curt, Charlie Clayton (Chuck), and Jack West Templeton; his sisters were Okie Irene Templeton Ervin and Betty Jo Templeton Burgess. Carl’s daughter Sandra and her husband Raymond Pendleton are currently researching their family ancestors.

The picture is of my father Carl Edgar Templeton- son of Orban Clarence Templeton and Rena France Templeton. He and my mother lived in the store building when they were first married. The store belonged to Boss Bellamy my mothers grandfather.

Thank you Sandra, and Shirley, for your positive identification of Carl. I have updated this entry to correct his surname.
