A family photo of the Benton & Williams family was found in my father’s papers.
Can anyone tell me info on William “Sonny” Williams. He was the husband of Amanda Benton Williams.
They were a very handsome couple. She was so young to have had four children in the photo that I have.
I look forward to hearing from anyone!

      Elizabeth:

I am researching an earlier Williams Family in Scott Co., VA who were included on a church membership there. They are Sherrod Williams and a Harden and possibly a Phillip Williams. From memory, the church record was dated 1806. This Sherrod Williams moved to Franklin Co., TN and they are a collateral line decendancy of my Ambrose Williams (b. 1725) Family.

Do you have your Williams in Scott Co., VA documented? What is the earliest date in Scott Co. for your family.

Hoping we can make some kind of connection in Scott Co., VA and find the parents of Sherrod Williams. We could be related through our Williams’ of Scott Co. Clydene

The earliest I can trace back my Williams family is 1793.
My great-great-great grandparents were James “Big Jim” Williams & wife Temperance “Tempy” Lane.
They had 8 children…Samuel, Disa, Abraham Mark, Catherine, Elizabeth Jane, Rial Martin, John Loars & George Washington.
Hopefully this will help you, but I must admit this just keeps me confused and in a state of foggyness from my continious family search and all because I want to join the DAR!
        Best to you and yours

Sonny Williams mother is Rachel Sloan, and her Sister Miranda is mother to .. James Harvey Sloan… Rachael and Mirandas’ parents are William Sloan born 1801 and Martha “Patsy” Wright born 1810. James Sloan is father to Maxie Sloan (my grandma) shown in the school kids pictures. I have that same picture of Sonnys wife also a group picture of his whole family.
If that photo was in your fathers papers then he is one of my distant relatives. Awesome.

Amazing. I was just in VA for a Quillen family reunion and visited with my Aunt Lola Williams.
We discussed this family photo of Sonny and family with the Benton family.
There are 11 people in the photo and I have them as top row/left to right…
James Willam Benton, Alice Benton Moore, Robert H. Benton & Amanda Benton Williams.
Bottom row/left to right…….John E. Williams, Mary Williams, William”Sonny” Williams (Amanda’s husband), Robert Williams (Amanda’s Father), Robert Carter Benton, J. Wesley Williams, Mary Elizabeth Pierson Williams (Amanda’s mother).
I’ve yet to figure out how these are related to my dad, William Patton Williams “Willie” who was born in Scott Co., VA & resided in Dean Hollow/Big Moccasian area.
On the back of the photo states: photo given to me by Alma Lee Spivey of Gate City who is Uncle Bob Williams daughter.
Now to confuse you even more Uncle Bob Williams was my granddaddy’s(Williams Henry Wms.) brother. Their parents were Elisha Breeding Williams and Mary Elizabeth McDavid.

Thanks for replying every bit if info is so helpful……a very distant cousin, Diana
