We think we are Bishops from Scott County Virginia. We know we are decendents of George Bishop of Canal Winchester Ohio. He had at least three sons. One who stayed in Canal Winchester and is burried there and a Henry(died around 1850) and John S. Bishop who came north to Findlay Ohio with a Smith family to run a mill in the 1830’S. No one has been able to trace back George Bishop, but there are rummors that he walked up through the Shenandoea River Valley to Columbus Ohio. I recently spoke with a relative who has done a lot of geneaolgy on the Bishops and beleives we may be from Scott County VA. However I was reading today that Scott county has been several counties and perhaps could have been Botetourt Co.(1769-1722), Fincastle Co.91722-1777), Washington, Russell, and Lee counties(1792 TO 1814). I am thinking that George could have been born 1790’s or prior. He may have come from the county of what is now known as Scott County. Are there Smiths or Dixons from there?
