Samual Davis

Don Davis writes;

Samuel Davis was born 1809 in Scott County. He married Barbary Lane, who had at least three sons who served in civil war, one was William Davis. According to my civil war records William served with the rebels, escaped and joined the union army, Company B, 45th Kentucky mounted infantry.

John A. Hall & Wm. B. Neil VS. Abraham Lane

Scott County Chancery Court Records

On file at the Virginia State Library

Index Number 1849 – 001

John A. Hall and Wm. B. Neil (The firm of Neil and Hall)

Vs. Abraham Lane

States that Abraham has departed from the Commonwealth of VA, debt unpaid, owed $244.62

50 Acres, in being the same land that James Lane bought of Abraham Lane and he from Robert Speer.

Conveyance made from Speer to Abraham but not from Abraham to James Lane.

Neil and Hall bought for $490.00

I am confused exactly what this one was about. Something to do with needing Abraham to make the deed to his son James, so he could convey to them, but I don’t know exactly what the 244.62 debt was all about. I think some papers must have been missing.

Drucilla Allen b. Aug 1873 was the daughter of James Allen and Rebecca Lane.

James Allen was the son of John Allen and Esther Jane Neal.  And Rebecca was the daughter of Wm. Wilkinson Lane and Malinda Rhoten.

Drucilla married John E. Stapleton and after his death she married Jim Lane.

Her father James fought with the 64th VA Infantry and is buried in the Flat Rock Cemetery in Rockcastle County KY.

Sheila writes,

The Obit tells a lot, but I would like to add that the Headline says Mrs. R.C. Cowden, and the Obit say’s R.H. Cowden. R.H. is correct.

Her husband was Robert H. Cowden the son of Calvin and Polly Snavley Cowden.
Robert and Sarah Day Cowden were the parents of Lucy A. Cowden that married Elbert Allen.
Elbert Allen was the son of Samuel Nathaniel Allen and Elizabeth Greear.
And Samuel Nathaniel Allen was the son of John Allen and Esther Jane Neil.

Sarah was the sister of Benjamin Craton Hill.

The children of Elbert Allen and Lucy A. Cowden were:
Martha Elizabeth Allen b. Aug 1881
