Samuel Nathaniel Allen Death Certificate.

Samuel Nathaniel Allen was the son of John Allen and Esther Jane Neal. His family cemetery in Scott County is called the Allen Family Cemetery. He married Elizabeth Greear.

Note on here that his son ( or someone) wrote that his father was born in Scotland.. I think he meant Scott Co. And that would still be wrong. Samuel was born in Scott County but his father was born in 1770. All census records for John Allen’s children state VA as his place of birth.

I got this from Robert Allen, great grandson of Samuel Nathaniel Allen.  Thanks Robert!

My Grandfather was Orban Bonham Greear and my Birth Grandmother was Lillie Hamilton Greear . They lived in Fort Blackmore, VA…I was born there on April 17, 1943.

To be completely accurate yes, the Greear’s started in Scotland..some came over on the Mayflower. They settled in Eastern KY and in VA. The surnames were a combination of MacGregor and Grier. Thus our unusal spelling of Greear.

I do not know very much regarding my Grandfather because he was electrocuted on his job before I was born. I know nothing of my birth Grandmother except her maiden name. When my Grandfather died she gave the three original children to foster parents and Darthula Greear Gose became the Grandmother that I knew.

There were other children born to Lillie Hamilton Greear yet she never remarried. Those children were: M.B. Greear (died at an early age); Charles (adopted to his father)whom I think was at one time Principal of the HS there. James R. Greear (whom I know and see and also lives in SC., Joan Greear Brown Dowell that lives in Bristol, TN and yet another girl that was given in adoption. This child the siblings either did not know about and/or deny she existed.

My father was Fitzhugh Lee Greear born to Orban and Lillie but was raised by his foster parents Mr. & Mrs. George B. Gose (Darthula) in Russell County.

The three original children were: Ethel Greear Gillespie Hensley; Fitzhugh Lee Greear and Preston Pridemore Greear (Holbrook) as some may know him, since he took, yet was not offically adopted by the Holbrooks.

I am interested in any info that anyone can give me regarding the Greears and the half brothers and sisters that are missing. Also, anyone who may have fathered these children that would come forward. I know it can be difficult since I am 68 an my Mother who is still living is 96 and my Dad would be 93 but has been deceased since 1990.

Thanks very much.
