I believe Nimrod Taylor that married Mary Lutz is my GGGGF. Please let me know if you have a website that I can visit concerning Scott County Families. I am researching Bryants/Falins/Hortons/Sloans and would appreciate any information you may have on these families. Sandy

I am a direct descendant of Nimrod Taylor Sr. My father and I have been searching for the Carter Cemetery he is buried in. So far we’ve been to about 5 with no luck. How do you get to the Carter Cemetery he is in?

I can help you David, it is just off State Route 649 in Rye Cove at Joseph Carter Cemetery and the correct GPS is N 36.72860 W -82.69762 and that is under the flag pole. That is Rye Cove, Scott County, Virginia. Hope that helps. …Wayne

Hey Sue, I’ve got a packet of the descendants of Nimrod Taylor Sr. compiled in 1960 and revised in 1976. According to the packet Nimrod Jr. was married to Judith Stewart. Do you know if there is a possiblity of Amanda being in Nimrod’s line?

Nimrod Sr. is my gggg-grandfather. I have extensive handwritten & typed documentation from my grandmother’s (Mary Elizabeth Patten Taylor) nephew Ewing Taylor – dated 1958. My father Marion Max who’s dad was Willard Conley, who’s dad was William P, who’s dad was Nimrod Jr & Judy Stewart, to Nimrod Sr. I’m happy to scan and send to anyone interested. Does anyone have the family tree going back to Carlisle England?

Nimrod Sr. is my gggg-grandfather also and I also come from William P.’s daughter Nancy Allen Taylor who married Ambrose Tyler and moved to Florida about 1912 after Ambrose died in Eolia KY. Our family was far away out of the loop for so long and I would surely like you to contact me so I could get a copy of your scans so we can find our place again.

My Grandfathers Grandfather was Andrew J Taylor from Virgina. His father I believe was William P Taylor. I am trying to put the peaces together. The only thing my Grandfather told me about his family is that his father was the 7th son of the 7th son and that the had a plantation that was destroyed during the civil war. If you can help me that would be great. I am planning a trip this fall to Scotts county Virgina and would like to know where to look for information. Thank you so much,
Carol Ricca

Do you have a list of William P Taylors children? I am hoping he is my GGG Grandfather as well. I plan a trip to Scotts County Virginia this fall and plan to research all that I can on the Taylors.

Carol,
You can see that list of the children of William P. Taylor online at this web site:
http://www.yeahpot.com/taylor/williamp.html

One of his sons was Andrew Jackson Taylor …..I am quite sure you are kin to Jerrie Taylor-Kelly through him, both of you. (you can reply to her post up above in this forum and contact her) She visited Scott County last fall and knows a lot about things in the family and could help you find where yours fit in I am sure. Tell her Wayne told you to write to her.

Carol, The grave of William P. Taylor and some of his family can be found by clicking on the cemetery name on his gravemarker web page at:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=56998662

They have a road map there showing the exact location in Scott County, with links to some of his children. I don’t know if Jerrie ever found the grave of Andrew Jackson Taylor or not. Nimrod Taylor Sr. is in a different cemetery, named Joseph Carter Cemetery in the same general area of the county, but harder to find. Video clips of the Sept. 19, 2010 SAR dedication ceremony there at his grave were placed on YouTube today in 4 parts at: http://www.youtube.com/user/yockel99

Hi Kris,

This is Carrie, we met years ago down in the LA area. I am Sherry’s daugter, and Bill Killian’s neice. I live in the Portland area now, but anyway, I would LOVE to see extensive handwritten/typed documentation. Maybe we can get together and compile our stuff? Your mom mentioned to me that you were into the family tree!
Hope to hear from you soon, Carrie

Howdy Kris and John! Ole Nimrod has his fair share of kin on down the line, me included.

Ewing Taylor’s research is pretty well known in the Taylor circles, I think I have a copy of it somewhere too, if it’s not on a crashed hard drive.

I am tracking down my wife’s MILLER line from KY. According to Ancestry.com Her 4G-Grandfather Adam Miller (B. 1788 VA D. 1877 KY) supposedly married a Nancy Taylor (B. 1780 VA, D. 1850 KY) and her father/mother are supposedly Nimrod Taylor & Mary Lutz.

I got kinda excited seeing that Nimrod had Revolutionary War ties and tried to find out more about him via Google. Another family tree lineage (ancestors of Andrew Byron Brodnax) said that Nancy was married to a Charles Burr Carter.

Can anyone add clarification to this please?

If she is related to Nimrod & Mary – how far back has someone gotten?

Very interesting. Nimrod Jr. is my GGGGGGG-grandfather. Although down the line, my GGGGG-grandfather changed his name to Jackson but we’re not sure why? We heard something about him murdering someone, but if anyone happens to know, I’d love to hear it. His name was Monroe Taylor, changed to Joseph Jackson.
Anyway, my question is regarding Nimrod SR., what were his parents names? I have Nimrod Jr’s parents as Mary Lotz (or Lutz) and Nimrod Taylor, wife as Judith Stewart. Thanks!

Reply

pat November 29, 2010 at 8:36 pm

Holly, regarding your ancestor Monroe Taylor, who do you have for his parents?

The Nimrod Taylor whos headstone is pictured here is the Nimrod Taylor who was married to Mary Lotz (or Lutz). He was the father of Nimrod who married Judith Stewart. Nimrod Jr. and Judith had a son named James Andrew Taylor who married Katherine Stewart, they had, among other sons named Monroe and Nimrod who married Dorton women (so many Taylor and Stewarts and Dortons… it gets really confusing!)

I have Nimrod Taylor and Judith Stewart as Monroe Taylor (or Joseph Jackson)’s parents, but I can’t find who Nimrod SR’s parents were. Yes, it does get confusing!

Thank you,
